Optoisolator

MOC3063 IC is a 6 pin I/O Optocoupler/Optoisolator with an integrated gallium arsenide Infrared emitting diode optically coupled to a TRIAC output with a Zero-crossing circuit. The IC can provide optical isolation to devices operating at 115/240 VAC lines.

Encoder sensors or also known as Slotted couplers and Opto-Interrupters are widely used for applications required to monitor any interruptions. The MOC module comes in a plastic moulding that houses an emitter and receiver section.  

If you’ve ever taken apart any phone charger or a switching power supply, you’ll find some tiny black IC packages with an unusual number of pins, mostly four or six, both in SMD and through-hole variants.
