Under Voltage Protection For Industrial Applications With BD28C5xFJ-LB Series Controller IC
ROHM Semiconductor announces the new BD28C5xFJ-LB series offering external FET-type controller integrated circuits (ICs) with PWM current control mode. They are designed to enhance the efficiency and reliability of industrial AC-DC power supplies. Featuring robust capabilities, including a high-accuracy undervoltage lockout (UVLO) function that provides exceptional thermal runaway prevention across a range of operating voltages. The controllers come with the features of a wide input range (6.9V to 28.0V), circuit currents up to 2.0 mA, and a maximum duty cycle of 50%. Thus addressing the pressing need for adaptable power management solutions in industrial settings.
In order to prevent thermal runaway in the event of a supply/gate voltage drop, each semiconductor has a different set of requirements for undervoltage lock out levels. To address these needs, four different controllers have been introduced to the market by Rohm The BD28C55FJ-LB for low-voltage MOSFETs, BD28C54FJ-LB for medium- to high-voltage MOSFETs, BD28C57LFJ-LB for IGBTs, and BD28C57HFJ-LB for SiC MOSFETs are the 4 variants in the series. These ICs support a versatile array of power transistors, from standard Si MOSFETs and IGBTs to high-performance SiC MOSFETs. With a startup current capped at 75µA, these devices provide seamless integration for optimized energy efficiency.
ROHM’s new controllers deliver stringent performance and meet the packaging standards, thus easing pressure on manufacturers and OEMs. The ICs’ pin-to-pin compatibility with standard industry products significantly simplifies implementation, eliminating the need for extensive re-design. All variants of ROHM’s PWM controllers incorporate a self-recovery-type UVLO function with voltage hysteresis, improving accuracy by reducing threshold voltage error to ±5%. This precision reduces maintenance needs and enhances reliability for long-life industrial equipment—a crucial factor for industries demanding consistent operation over extended lifecycles.
