Infineon Launches CoolSiC™ MOSFET 400 V Family for AI Processor Power Demands
Infineon Technologies AG has introduced a new solution to tackle the increasing power demands of Artificial Intelligence (AI) processors. They are focusing on improving server power supplies (PSUs) to cope with the rising energy needs of high-level GPUs, which could surpass 2 kW per chip by the end of the decade. This initiative involves extending SiC MOSFETs to voltages below 650 V, resulting in the launch of the CoolSiC™ MOSFET 400 V family. These MOSFETs are designed for the AC/DC stage of AI servers, offering low conduction and switching losses compared to existing 650 V SiC and Si MOSFETs. They promise high power density and efficiency, making them suitable for various applications. The portfolio includes ten different products with varying features to meet different needs.
Infineon has focused on ensuring the durability of these components, subjecting them to rigorous testing to withstand harsh operating conditions. The CoolSiC technology, combined with advanced interconnect technology (.XT), enhances their ability to handle power peaks and transients effectively. This development represents a significant step forward in addressing the evolving power requirements of AI processors, with potential applications beyond AI. The CoolSiC™ MOSFET 400 V family offers improved efficiency and durability, contributing to the advancement of AI server power supplies and related technologies.
