Where to use MJE13005 Transistor
The MJE13005 is a high voltage NPN transistor with a collector Emitter voltage of 400V and collector current of 4A, it also has a high switching speed of 0.9uS making it ideal choice in high voltage high speed switching circuits for Converter and inverter applications.
Apart from this the transistor is also used in simple relay or solenoid driver circuits because of its ability to handle peak current upto 8A
How to use MJE13005 Transistor
Because of the high switching voltage and switching current the MJE13005 has a high base voltage of 9V and requires about 2A closing the switching completely when operating across very high voltage. This brings in the need to have a transistor driver circuit for the MJE13005. These are commonly used in SMPS designs along with a switching transformer to switch AC voltage of 115V or 220V at high frequencies.
Since the IC is available in TO-220 format it is relatively simple to use. The transistor has a collector dissipation power of 75W, hence a heat sink will b mandatory when operating at high voltages.
Applications
- high current switching (upto 4A) loads
- DC-DC Converters
- Inverters
- Speed control of Motors
- Relay/Solenoid driver
