TDK Corporation has introduced the TDK-Lambda DDSM series, a new range of programmable, isolated DC-DC converters designed for DIN-rail mounting. The series includes two models, rated for 120 W and 240 W, and is intended for industrial systems that need flexible voltage conversion without requiring a different converter for every output-voltage requirement.

The DDSM series supports a nominal input range of 12 V to 48 VDC and provides a programmable nominal output range from 5 V to 55 VDC. Its isolated architecture, wide conversion range, digital controls, and remote monitoring capabilities make it suitable for applications such as factory automation, telecommunications, semiconductor manufacturing, renewable energy systems, and test and measurement equipment.

The specifications are based on TDK-Lambda's published product documentation. The 240 W model can provide up to 240 W at nominal 24 V and 48 V output conditions, while its maximum continuous boost power is specified at 264 W under the applicable conditions.

Key Features

  • Wide Input and Output Voltage Range

One of the main advantages of the DDSM series is its wide conversion range. The converters accept 12 V to 48 VDC nominal input and can be configured for outputs from 5 V to 55 VDC nominal. This flexibility allows one converter platform to support a variety of system voltage requirements.

  • Isolated DC-DC Conversion

The DDSM uses an isolated converter architecture, allowing the output side to be electrically separated from the input. This can be useful when an application requires an independent supply rail or additional flexibility in system power distribution.

  • Digital Control and Monitoring

The converters can be controlled and monitored remotely through Modbus over USB using TDK-Lambda's PowerCMC control and monitoring center. This allows system designers to configure and monitor the converter without relying solely on local controls.

  • Front-Panel Display and Controls

A two-digit digital display provides access to device settings, alarms, and status information. Three push buttons on the front panel allow users to operate and configure the converter locally.

  • Efficiency and Low Standby Consumption

The DDSM series is designed to reduce conversion losses and standby power consumption. The DDSM120 has a typical efficiency of 91.7%, while the DDSM240 reaches 93.0% typical efficiency under the specified conditions.

  • DC-OK Signal

A 24 V/1 A DC-OK signal is available from the front panel, allowing the converter's operating status to be integrated into a larger control system.

  • Compact DIN-Rail Design

Both models use a compact enclosure measuring 40 mm wide, 115 mm high, and 116.6 mm deep, with a listed weight of approximately 500 g. The DIN-rail mounting format makes them suitable for installation inside industrial control cabinets.

Applications

The DDSM series is aimed primarily at industrial and infrastructure applications where flexible DC voltage conversion is required.

  • Factory Automation: The programmable output can provide different voltage rails for industrial controllers, sensors, actuators, and other automation equipment.
  • General-Purpose Industrial Equipment: The wide input and output ranges can simplify power-system design when equipment operates from different DC supply voltages.
  • Semiconductor Fabrication: Semiconductor manufacturing equipment often contains multiple subsystems with different power requirements. The DDSM's programmable output can provide a flexible power-conversion solution.
  • Renewable Energy Systems: The converters can be used in DC power architectures where input and load voltages vary between systems.
  • Telecommunications: The isolated output and wide conversion ratio can support telecommunications equipment and auxiliary DC power requirements.
  • Test and Measurement: Programmable voltage conversion can be useful in test equipment where different DC supply levels are required.

TDK-Lambda also identifies applications involving long cable runs, voltage step-up requirements, isolated power for Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), and loads requiring non-standard operating voltages.

Safety and Compliance

The DDSM series has been designed to meet several international safety standards, including IEC/EN/UL/CSA 61010-1, IEC/EN/UL/CSA 61010-2-201, and IEC/EN/UL/CSA 62368-1 Edition 3. The products also carry CE and UKCA markings and are specified for compliance with applicable EMC and RoHS requirements. TDK-Lambda states that the models meet EN 55032 Class B radiated and conducted emission requirements and EN 61000-6 immunity standards.

Availability

The DDSM120-0555-R0 and DDSM240-0555-R0 are listed by TDK as production products with a worldwide sales region excluding Japan. TDK's product pages provide technical documentation and distributor information. For current stock levels, pricing, and lead times, customers should check with authorized TDK-Lambda distributors because inventory can vary by region
