TDK Corporation has introduced the EP21 Series, a new range of Surface Mount Device (SMD) Common Mode Chokes designed to address the ongoing challenge in the electronics industry: integrating increased power and functionalities into devices while maintaining strict Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) control. These innovative products are specifically engineered for Low Voltage Power Electronics applications, ensuring Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) compliance without consuming excessive Printed Circuit Board (PCB) space.

A key differentiator of the EP21 series is its compact footprint combined with a smart mechanical design. The chokes feature underbody terminations, which significantly reduce the overall mounting footprint compared to conventional designs that require external solder pads. Additionally, a four-pin configuration enhances mechanical stability and solder joint reliability, making the series robust enough for demanding industrial and power conversion environments that experience vibrations and mechanical stresses.

Despite their small size, the EP21 series chokes offer high current capability and excellent thermal performance. They support continuous currents ranging from 20.3 A up to 35 A without derating at ambient temperatures up to +70°C. This high power handling, coupled with advanced materials like premium MnZn ferrite cores and flat wire winding, ensures high inductance, minimal conduction losses, and overall efficiency, making them ideal for modern, space-constrained power supply architectures.
