MKP1848e Capacitor from Vishay Targets EV and Industrial Applications

Vishay Intertechnology has announced the release of Roederstein MKP1848e, an AEC-Q200 qualified DC-Link metallized polypropylene film capacitor that’s built to function in tough environments like inside cars, power plants, and factories. It has been tested and meets Grade III standards for temperature humidity bias testing at 60°C and 93% relative humidity for 1344 hours while operating at its rated voltage.
The capacitor is available with capacitance values from 1 microfarad to 140 microfarads, ESR as low as 1.0 milliohm, and voltage ratings from 500V DC to 1300V DC. Offering an operating temperature of up to +125 °C, the device can handle ripple currents up to 44.5 A. In comparison to previous-generation solutions of the same volume, it provides 25% more ripple current density. The compact design of the capacitor and availability of pitch options as small as 22.5mm allow for volume reductions of up to 40% at 500 VDC and 15% at 900 VDC.
The component is a good fit for use in on-board chargers, power trains, HVAC systems, e-compressors, and DC/DC converters. Further, it is capable of operating at voltages from 250 VDC to 800 VDC at 125°C for limited periods to meet the voltage requirements of EV and PHEV. It can survive 1000 cycles of temperature changes from -40°C to +125°C, with 30-minute periods at each extreme temperature. The MKP1848e is available for sampling and production orders right away, with a 10-week lead time for delivery.
