High-Performance CIPOS™ Maxi IPM Series Optimized for Low-Power Motor Applications
Infineon Technologies AG has introduced the CIPOS™ Maxi Intelligent Power Module (IPM) series, expanding its 7th generation TRENCHSTOP™ IGBT7 product family. The IM12BxxxC1 series is built on the TRENCHSTOP IGBT7 1200 V and EmCon 7 rapid diode technology. It features a micro-pattern trench design aimed at enhancing control and performance, leading to reduced losses, improved efficiency, and higher power density. The series includes three variants—IM12B10CC1, IM12B15CC1, and IM12B20EC1—supporting power ratings between 10 A and 20 A, suitable for applications up to 4.0 kW. The IPMs are housed in a DIP 36x23D package, which integrates various power and control components to increase reliability, optimize PCB size, and reduce system costs. This packaging offers high power density and performance, making it particularly useful for low-power motor drives in devices like motors, pumps, fans, heat pumps, and HVAC systems.
The IPM series also includes features such as a dual-in-line molded housing for thermal performance and electrical isolation, as well as meeting EMI and overload protection standards. Additional protective measures include a UL-certified temperature thermistor, under-voltage lockout, and over-current shutdown. A 6-channel SOI gate driver with built-in dead time and multi-function pin provides design flexibility. The series also allows access to the low side emitter pins for all-phase current monitoring.
