STMicroelectronics Launches STSPIN9 High-Current Motor-Drive Series for Industrial and Household Appliance Applications
STMicroelectronics has unveiled the STSPIN9 series, a high-current motor-drive solution comprising the STSPIN948 and STSPIN958 devices. These motor drivers combine a 58V power stage, PWM control logic, and integrated system protection with current sensing, making them versatile and cost-effective. The STSPIN948 offers a flexible solution with two full bridges capable of driving different motors in multiple configurations, supported by five distinct modes. Meanwhile, the STSPIN958 integrates a single full bridge and can drive two unidirectional motors, a bidirectional brushed DC motor, or a higher-current unidirectional motor.
Both drivers have a wide voltage range and are ideal for various applications, including factory automation, industrial robots, lighting systems, ATMs, vending machines, and household appliances. With protection features like overcurrent, overtemperature, short-circuit protection, and under-voltage lockout (UVLO), they ensure reliable operation. The motor drivers also offer the ability to program output transistor slew rates, a critical factor in balancing power consumption and electromagnetic compatibility. Additionally, the devices feature low on-resistance MOSFETs for high operating efficiency and a short propagation delay for rapid system response. Evaluation boards are available for easy development and compatibility with popular development platforms.
