Renesas has released its new RZ/G3E 64-bit microprocessor unit (MPU). It’s a 64-bit general-purpose device optimized for Human-Machine Interface (HMI) applications. The chip is designed for industrial and consumer use cases, which include factory equipment, medical monitors, retail terminals, and building automation systems. 

A quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 takes care of general computing, supported by a Cortex-M33 for real-time tasks and an Ethos-U55 NPU for AI acceleration. It can support two Full HD displays at 60 frames per second, with commonly available output options such as LVDS, MIPI-DSI, and parallel RGB. There is an MIPI-CSI interface included for video input. The chip allows performing edge computing tasks like image classification, object detection, and voice recognition without much CPU usage. 

The MPU has PCIe 3.0 (2 lanes), USB 3.2 Gen2, and dual Gigabit Ethernet for fast data transfer and connecting with cloud services or 5G modules. Its power management features allow it to operate at 50 mW in standby and ~1 mW in deep standby. With DDR self-refresh, it can retain memory and fast resume for Linux. In addition, Renesas provides long-term Linux support through its Verified Linux Package and Linux BSP Plus, with options for Ubuntu and Debian. The RZ/G3E microprocessor, along with the Evaluation Board Kit, is now available for order.
