New High-Speed Optocoupler for Industrial and Data Communication Applications
Vishay Intertechnology has introduced a new high-speed optocoupler VOIH72A, featuring a 25 MBd data rate with a CMOS logic digital input and output interface for easy integration into digital systems. The single-channel VOIH72A offers a low 6 ns maximum pulse width distortion and a maximum supply current of 2 mA. It supports a wide supply voltage range from 2.7 V to 5.5 V and can operate at temperatures up to +110 °C. The device includes a digitally controlled input LED driver paired with a high-speed infrared emitting diode (IRED) and an integrated optical photodiode IC detector, housed in a small SOIC-8 package. This design eliminates the need for external driver stages and current limiting resistors, allowing for direct connection to microcontrollers and reducing system costs.
The VOIH72A is suitable for data communication, pulse width modulation, and ensuring high voltage safety in industrial applications such as automation equipment, motor drives, and tools. It has a minimum common mode transient immunity (CMTI) of 20 kV/μs and a low supply current, making it effective for galvanic noise isolation and breaking ground loops while minimizing power consumption. The device is RoHS-compliant and pin-to-pin compatible with competing solutions, offering wider supply voltage and temperature ranges.
