EliteSiC Power Integrated Modules (PIMs) - Bidirectional Charging Modules for Ultra-Fast EV Chargers and Energy Storage Systems
Onsemi introduced nine new EliteSiC Power Integrated Modules (PIMs) focused on enabling bidirectional charging for DC ultra-fast EV chargers and energy storage systems. These silicon carbide-based solutions aim to reduce system cost with improved efficiency and simpler cooling, resulting in up to 40% size reduction and 52% weight reduction compared to traditional silicon-based IGBT solutions. This advancement provides designers with essential components to swiftly establish a dependable, efficient, and scalable network of DC fast chargers capable of charging EV batteries up to 80% in 15 minutes. Bidirectional charging allows both regular battery charging and EV as an energy storage system to power homes when needed.
The module portfolio features Gen3 M3S SiC MOSFET technology for minimal switching losses and maximum efficiency, supporting scalable output power from 25 kW to 100 kW. These modules come in the standard of F1 and F2 packages, pre-applied with Thermal Interface Material (TIM) and press-fit pins, optimizing thermal management to prevent overheating-induced system failures. Additionally, the SiC Power Integrated Modules prioritize robustness and dependability to ensure consistent operational performance.
