Automotive-Qualified Dead-Reckoning GNSS Module with 6-axis IMU Simplifies Design and Boosts Performance
STMicroelectronics has introduced a new GNSS standalone module “Teseo-VIC3DA” that combines ST’s Automotive Teseo III GNSS IC with the automotive 6-axis MEMS inertial measurement unit (IMU) and dead reckoning software to create a convenient, automotive-qualified navigation module. Within its 16.0mm x 12.2mm size, this module offers superior accuracy because of the onboard Temperature Compensated Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) and a reduced Time To First Fix (TTFF) relying on its dedicated Real Time Clock (RTC) oscillator. Moreover, with the combination of Teseo III, IMU, and dead reckoning, this new module ensures accurate positioning performance in critical environments like tunnels, beneath structures such as bridges or multi-level highways, in covered areas such as underground parking lots, and even in urban canyons between tall buildings.
The Teseo-VIC3DA module operates from 3.3V and has a standby mode that draws 17µA to minimize demand on the vehicle’s electrical supply. This GNSS module features a temperature operating range from -40°C to +85°C and can autonomously work with and without odometer information. This module can provide up to 30Hz dead-reckoning fix-rate and has very low latency to reduce the UART-channel jitter.
