LP50XX - 12bit RGB LED Driver for vivid color and seamless animation

Aiming to reduce the power consumption and to improve the efficiency of Human Machine Interface devices, Texas Instruments has launched its first 12-bit 29-kHz LED driver for RGB LEDs. The Driver has integrated independent colour mixing, brightness control and a power saving mode enabling smooth vivid colour transmission at low power consumption making it suitable for portable electronics and other HMI applications.

Key features of LP50xx RBG LED Drivers:

  • Voltage Range: 2.7V to 5.5V
  • Per channel current: 25.5mA
  • 1uA shutdown current
  • 12-bit, 29-kHz PWM generator for each channel
  • Multichannel options – 18 to 36 channels
  • Zero audible noise

More technical features and application circuits can be found at the datasheet linked at the bottom of this page.

The driver IC also has a development board called LP50224EVM and software called LP50xx graphical user interface both of which can be used to get started with the driver easily. The GUI software can easily configure the drivers according to the requirement. The drivers are currently available for purchase from the TI store for price ranging from $0.73 to $1.08 per IC for 1000 units.
