2N547 N-Channel JFET

The 2N547 is an age old JFET that was commonly used in Pre-Amp circuits. The JFET has VDS of 25V and VGS of 25V with a Gate current of 10mA. The FET also has high Input Impedance and Low Input Capacitance.

Brief Description on 2N547

The 2N547 is a JFET that has been used in many amplification circuits because of its low price. The JFET is currently no longer in production but till the demand for it has created many clones in the market. The closest equivalent for 2N547 is the MMBFJ201 JFET but it is available only on SMD package.

The clone FETs available in the market does not seem to follow the datasheet strictly. Hence be careful which employing one in your designs. Provided you have the right FET, it can be used in pre-amp circuit to achieve gain of +12dB or high. If you cannot find the supplier, then consider upgrading to TIS158 which his slightly pricy but availability will not be a problem.
