Murata Develops World’s Smallest 008004-inch Size (0.25mm × 0.125mm) NTC Thermistor
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has announced the development of the NCU01 series, the world’s smallest 008004-inch size (0.25mm × 0.125mm) NTC thermistor. This innovative component addresses the growing demand for highly accurate temperature sensing in increasingly compact and sophisticated electronic devices. By significantly reducing its footprint, the NCU01 series enables designers to place temperature sensors closer to heat-generating components, thereby improving thermal monitoring precision and responsiveness.
Compared to Murata’s previous smallest 01005-inch size (0.4mm × 0.2mm) product, the new NCU01 series achieves an approximate 60% reduction in mounting area. Despite its ultra-compact dimensions, it maintains equivalent high-precision temperature-sensing performance, featuring a resistance tolerance of ±1% and a B-constant tolerance of ±1%. This capability is crucial for stable temperature sensing in high-density component layouts where space is at a premium and accurate thermal management is vital for device reliability.
The development of the NCU01 series leverages Murata’s proprietary ceramic materials technology, high-precision processing, and optimized component structure and manufacturing process. Murata plans to commence sample shipments in October 2026, with mass production slated for 2027. The initial lineup will progressively expand, starting with 100kΩ and 10kΩ resistance values, further contributing to the miniaturization and enhanced reliability of electronic devices.
