Toshiba TXZ+ M4L Group Microcontrollers for Single-Motor Control

Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has initiated mass production of its TXZ+™ Family Entry-Class M4L Group of compact microcontrollers. These devices are built around an Arm® Cortex®-M4 core, which includes a floating-point unit (FPU), and are specifically engineered for single-motor control applications within next-generation home appliances, consumer products, and industrial equipment. A key differentiator is their integration of dedicated motor-control hardware, robust security functions, and comprehensive functional safety measures onto a single chip.

The development of the M4L Group addresses the increasing market demand for enhanced energy efficiency, more compact designs, improved IoT connectivity, and greater maintainability across various equipment types. To meet these needs, the microcontrollers are designed to boost development efficiency and system reliability while delivering high-precision motor control. They achieve this by offloading complex motor-control processing to dedicated hardware, thereby significantly reducing the CPU load and enabling highly efficient and precise operation.

Operating at frequencies up to 80MHz, these microcontrollers support a broad supply voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V, ensuring compatibility with both existing 3V- and 5V-based systems and providing design flexibility for new product developments. They are offered in four compact package types, ranging from 44 to 64 pins, and feature two memory configurations, including dual-bank flash memory options that facilitate seamless firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updates.

Targeting a wide array of industries, the M4L Group is suitable for applications in next-generation home appliances, consumer equipment, industrial equipment, factory automation systems, office equipment, and commercial equipment. Specific part numbers in this series include TMPM4L4FYAUG, TMPM4L4FWAUG, TMPM4L2FYADUG, TMPM4L2FWADUG, TMPM4L2FYAQG, TMPM4L2FWAQG, TMPM4L1FYAUG, and TMPM4L1FWAUG.
