Diodes Incorporated has launched its new AP74502Q and AP74502HQ ideal diode controllers. They are built to meet the power protection needs of modern vehicles, which are on the rise. These automotive-grade components are designed to simplify reverse polarity and overvoltage protection across systems like ADAS, infotainment, USB charging ports, lighting, and body control modules.

They function reliably under cold crank conditions even as low as 3.2V and support voltages up to 80V. Both of the chips include a load disconnect feature that kicks in during overvoltage or undervoltage events. These controllers allow energy to flow in both directions, unlike the conventional diode solutions. This is ideal for systems with regenerative braking or backflow power

With a soft 60μA gate source current, the AP74502Q offers smoother current startup, while the AP74502HQ provides faster switching with an 11mA gate drive for high-speed power-up. These ideal diode controllers come in SOT28 packages that are compact and operate in extreme temperatures from -40°C to +125°C. Both AP74502Q and AP74502HQ are priced at $0.27 each in quantities of 1,000.

Key Features of AP74502Q and AP74502HQ Ideal Diode Controllers

  • 80V protection: Suits 12V, 24V, and 48V systems

  • Cold crank ready: Operates down to 3.2V

  • Low IQ: Just 62µA when active, 1µA when disabled

  • Fast gate control: 2.3A sink current for rapid turn-off

  • Soft-start (AP74502Q): 60μA gate source current

  • Fast turn-on (AP74502HQ): 11mA gate source current

  • AEC-Q qualified: Built for automotive reliability

  • Temperature range: -40°C to +125°C

  • SOT28 package: Compact, industry-standard footprint

Applications of AP74502Q and AP74502HQ

  • Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)

  • Infotainment and USB charging ports

  • Body control modules and exterior lighting

  • 48V vehicle subsystems and zonal power architectures

  • Systems needing surge, reverse, and cold crank protection
