Vishay Intertechnology has introduced three new wirewound, surface-mount ferrite inductors in the 2020DE, 3232DB, and 5050HZ case sizes. These new inductors are part of the shielded IFDC and semi-shielded IFSC series. They offer higher inductance and current ratings along with lower DC resistance (DCR), providing better performance at a reduced cost compared to previous ferrite solutions. The new inductors—IFDC-5050HZ, IFSC-2020DE-01, and IFSC-3232DB-01—are 60% smaller than earlier models but offer comparable performance. They also feature enhanced characteristics such as higher operating temperatures up to +125 °C and operating voltages of 120 V. Specifically, the IFSC-2020DE-01 and IFSC-3232DB-01 have 40% lower DCR, while the IFDC-5050HZ supports saturation currents up to 14 A. The inductance values of the new devices are also significantly higher than typical high-performance inductors, reaching 470 µH for the IFSC-2020DE-01 and IFSC-3232DB-01, and 1 mH for the IFDC-5050HZ.

The IFSC and IFDC series use efficient manufacturing techniques and a straightforward bobbin-style wirewound construction, making them more cost-effective compared to IHLP inductor technology without compromising on quality and reliability. These inductors are suitable for use in energy storage for DC/DC conversion in consumer electronics and battery-powered devices, as well as in differential LC filter topologies for noise suppression on power lines. They are ideal for applications in consumer entertainment devices (such as televisions, soundbars, and gaming systems), general computing equipment (like desktops, monitors, and scanners), and household appliances. The IFDC-5050HZ, in particular, minimizes electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk due to its coil being enclosed in an exterior magnetic material.
