Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has introduced the TLP3910, a photovoltaic output photocoupler housed in a thin SO6L package, for driving high-voltage power MOSFET with a gate voltage of 10V or higher used as an isolated solid-state relay(SSR). With a minimum open voltage of 14V, only one TLP3910 is enough to drive the gate of a high-voltage power MOSFET, this helps in reducing the component used in a system.

With a minimum isolation voltage of 5000 Vrms, the TLP3910 maintains the performance delivered by Toshiba’s current products viz. TLP191B and TLP3906. With a high-temperature operation of 125°C, the new device can be used in industrial equipment driven by AC 400V systems. Improvement to the built-in discharge circuit has realized a typical turn-off time of 0.1ms, about 1/3 that of TLP3906 and about 1/30 that of TLP191B, and this delivers higher speed operation.

The TLP390 Photocoupler is ideal for industrial equipment such as relay contact output for I/O of programmable logic controllers and the like, solenoid driver control parts of braking systems, main power supply circuits/inrush current protection circuits, battery voltage monitoring parts for battery management systems (BMS) and ground fault detection parts. They can also be used in measuring equipment, such as power supply line switching and measuring line switching.
