TDK Launches Low-Resistance 10 μF/100 V Soft-Termination X7R MLCCs
TDK Corporation has expanded its CN series of low-resistance soft-termination SMD Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors (MLCCs) with a new 100 V component featuring X7R characteristics. This product achieves an industry-leading rated capacitance of 10 μF in the compact 3225 format (3.2 x 2.5 x 2.5 mm), as of September 2026. Mass production of these new components began in September 2026.
This expansion addresses the growing demand for 100 V-rated MLCCs with larger capacitance in 48 V applications, particularly within the AI ecosystem, including AI servers, humanoid robots, and xEVs These applications aim to reduce power loss and the weight of wire harnesses, necessitating high-capacitance components. The new CN series also tackles a common issue in soft-termination products: increased Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) due to the resin layer.
TDK's key differentiator lies in its optimised resin electrode structure. This proprietary design allows the CN series to maintain low resistance, equivalent to that of standard terminal products, despite incorporating soft termination for enhanced reliability against external stress. Through optimised material selection and product design, these components achieve twice the capacitance of TDK’s conventional capacitors of the same size while significantly reducing ESR. This innovation contributes to higher reliability, a reduction in component count, and miniaturization of electronic sets.
