STMicroelectronics Wireless Charging Solution for High-Energy Device Power Efficiency
STMicroelectronics has introduced a new wireless charging solution aimed at powering high-energy devices such as medical equipment, industrial tools, home appliances, and computer accessories. This technology enables faster and more efficient charging for products like power tools, drones, and portable lighting systems. The STEVAL-WBC2TX50 transmitter board can deliver up to 50 watts of power using the ST Super Charge (STSC) protocol, supporting faster charging than conventional methods. It also supports Qi 1.3 profiles for 5W and 15W charging. The board features the STWBC2-HP system-in-package, equipped with an STM32G071 Arm® Cortex®-M0 microcontroller for various functions such as signal conditioning and power delivery. It operates with DC voltages ranging from 4.1V to 24V and includes features like USB Power Delivery and Qi authentication.
The STEVAL-WLC98RX receiver board is capable of handling up to 50 watts of charging power, supporting both STSC and Qi charging profiles. It incorporates Adaptive Rectifier Configuration (ARC), which extends charging distances by up to 50% to allow for more flexible coil designs. The receiver uses the STWLC98 wireless power receiver IC, featuring a Cortex-M3 core and a high-efficiency power stage with programmable outputs up to 20V. It also includes features like Foreign Object Detection (FOD) and thermal management. STMicroelectronics offers software tools—STSW-WPSTUDIO for the receiver and STSW-WBC2STUDIO for the transmitter—to customize settings according to specific requirements.
