New High-Speed 890 nm IR Diode by Ideal for Smoke Detectors and Industrial Sensors
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced the TSHF5211, an advanced 890 nm high-speed infrared (IR) emitting diode designed for various applications. This diode is housed in a clear, untinted leaded plastic package and utilizes surface emitter technology. It is notable for its -1.0 mV/K temperature coefficient of forward voltage (VF), which provides stability across temperature changes. The TSHF5211 also offers higher radiant intensity and faster rise and fall times compared to previous models. In terms of compliance and environmental considerations, the TSHF5211 is RoHS-compliant and halogen-free. It supports lead-free soldering processes at temperatures up to 260 °C, making it suitable for modern manufacturing requirements. The TSHF5211 particularly useful in applications such as smoke detectors and industrial sensors. In these uses, the diode’s spectral output matches well with silicon photodetectors, ensuring efficient detection and operation.
The technical specifications of the TSHF5211 include a typical radiant intensity of 235 mW/sr at a drive current of 100 mA. This intensity level is 50% higher than that of earlier models, indicating a significant improvement in performance. The diode also features fast switching times of 15 nanoseconds, allowing for quick response in applications. The typical forward voltage of the diode is 1.5 V, and it has a narrow angle of half intensity of ± 10°, which focuses the emitted IR light more precisely.
