New Enhanced Code Protection and 15W Power Delivery in AVR® DU Family USB Microcontrollers

AVR® DU Microcontrollers
AVR® DU Microcontrollers

The AVR® DU family of microcontrollers (MCUs) from Microchip Technology offers several notable features that make them advantageous for embedded designs. These MCUs integrate a Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface, providing compatibility with various devices and a streamlined communication protocol. They support in-field updatability, allowing for secure and convenient firmware updates via USB. Moreover, the AVR DU family offers enhanced power delivery capabilities, supporting up to 15W from the USB interface, which is ideal for USB-C® charging applications. One key security feature of the AVR DU family is the Program and Debug Interface Disable (PDID), enhancing protection against unauthorized access to firmware. This family of MCUs also utilizes Read-While-Write (RWW) Flash, enabling secure firmware updates without interrupting product operation, thereby extending product lifetime.

The AVR DU MCUs include a USB clock recovery feature, eliminating the need for an external crystal and thereby reducing design complexity and material costs. Additionally, Core Independent Peripherals (CIPs) allow for main device functions and system management tasks to be integrated onto a single-chip solution, saving board space and simplifying design efforts. These features make the AVR DU MCUs suitable for a wide range of embedded applications, from portable power banks and rechargeable toys to fitness wearables, home appliances, and industrial devices. Developers can benefit from the efficiency and versatility of the AVR DU family for their embedded system designs.
