New AEC-Q102 Qualified IR Emitters offer High Drive Current in Automotive Applications

High Power Infrared Emitters
High Power Infrared Emitters

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has released eight new high-power infrared (IR) emitters, qualified for automotive use. These emitters, available in 850 nm and 940 nm wavelengths, are designed for high current up to 1.5 A DC and 5 A pulsed. The new IR emitters offer high radiant intensity, reaching up to 6000 mW/sr at 5 A pulsed current and 2000 mW/sr at 1.5 A DC current. This performance is about 10% better than similar devices on the market. The emitters are compact, measuring 3.4 mm by 3.4 mm, which is 20% smaller than other similar products, saving space and reducing the number of components needed. These emitters are suitable for applications such as advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), driver and cabin monitoring systems, eye tracking, and CCTV. The 940 nm versions reduce the red glow effect, while the 850 nm versions work better with cameras. They are available in four different angles of half intensity: ± 28°, ± 40°, ± 60°, and ± 75°, to suit various needs.

The emitters operate in temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +125 °C and have low thermal resistance (5 K/W to 9 K/W), which helps manage heat effectively. They comply with RoHS standards, are free from halogens, and support lead-free reflow soldering. Additionally, they have high resistance to electrostatic discharge (ESD) up to 5 kV, a floor life of 168 hours, and a moisture sensitivity level of 3 according to J-STD-020E. These new IR emitters from Vishay are designed to improve performance and efficiency in automotive and other high-performance applications, offering high intensity, compact size, and effective thermal management.
