New AC/DC Flyback Controllers Enhance Efficiency for GaN-Based Power Delivery Solutions

New AC/DC Flyback Controllers From Nexperia
NEX806xx/NEX808xx Series of AC/DC Flyback Controllers

Nexperia released a new series of AC/DC flyback controllers, the NEX806/8xx and NEX8180x models. These are designed for GaN-based flyback converters and feature a wide VCC range (10-83V). These ICs can be combined with Nexperia’s NEX52xxx PD controllers to deliver a turn-key flyback converter solution that optimizes the current sense voltage level and PFM mode. This combination reduces standby power and achieves high efficiency across the entire load range. These ICs are suitable for power delivery chargers, adapters, wall sockets, industrial power supplies, and other high-density AC/DC applications.

The NEX806xx/NEX808xx are quasi-resonant/multi-mode flyback controllers. The NEX81801/NEX81802 in the series are adaptive synchronous rectifier controllers. The synchronous rectification (SR) controller employs an advanced adaptive control method that effectively prevents the mis-conduction of the switching device. Simultaneously, the primary side controller can directly drive either a silicon MOSFET or a GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT), enhancing power density and contributing to improved overall system reliability. Enhanced thermal performance is achieved by employing the TSOT23-6 flip-chip package, which prevents accidental triggering of the over-temperature protection (OTP) function.
