Vishay Intertechnology has released SMDY1, a new series of surface-mount AC line-rated ceramic disc safety capacitors that offer a Y1 rating of 500 VAC and 1500 VDC. Compared to the competing devices that offer capacitance up to 1.5 nF and Y1 ratings to 300 VAC only with no DC rating, these new devices offer high capacitance to 4.7 nF. Designed to withstand harsh, high humidity environments, these new capacitors offer high humidity robustness and reducing production cost too.

 

The new capacitors are suitable to be used for EMI / RFI filtering in power supplies, solar inverters, smart meters, and LED drivers. They offer high humidity resistance with a Class IIB humidity grade in accordance with IEC60384-14 annex I and a moisture sensitivity level of 2a. These RoHS-compliant and halogen-free components comprise a copper-plated ceramic disc which is copper plated on both sides. Encapsulation is made of flame-retardant epoxy resin in accordance with UL 94 V-0. Samples and production quantities of the SMDY1 series will be available in Q1 2021, with lead times of 10 weeks.
