STMicroelectronics has introduced ESDCAN03-2BM3Y, a dual automotive-qualified low-capacitance transient voltage suppressor (TVS) for protecting CAN and CAN-FD interfaces. The 1.1mmx 1.0mm miniaturized, high-performance TVS devices meet the demand of high-density ECUs such as ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), autonomous driving controllers, and automotive gateways.

 

With outstanding transient protection with clamping voltage as low as 33V (8/20µs at 1A) and 37V (transmission-line pulse (TLP) at 16A), the new device can reduce the PCB space usage by 75%. The new device is extremely robust, withstands up to 15kV ESD contact discharge (ISO 10605), offers a 3.3A peak pulse rating, and can handle strong current surges. 

 

With a maximum junction temperature rating of 175°C, the ESDCAN03-2BM3Y offers an extremely low leakage current of 50nA at 24V and minimizes battery drain when the vehicle is turned off. On top of CAN and CAN-FD, the line capacitance of just 3.3pF allows the TVS to protect high-speed and high-data-rate buses such as FlexRay and USB. 

 

With wettable flanks that facilitated high-speed automatic optical inspection after soldering, the ESDCAN03-2BM3Y TVS is offered in the leadless DFN1110 package and is priced at $0.044 for orders of 1000 pieces.
