ST85MM programmable PLC with Smart Metering

STMicroelectronics (ST) has launched the ST85MM, programmable powerline communication (PLC) modem designed to meet the evolving demands of smart meters. Supporting both Meters and More and PRIME 1.4 smart grid standards, the modem offers an adaptable solution for managing energy data in modern networks.

Equipped with a programmable DSP and Arm Cortex-M4 core, the ST85MM can run either Meters and More or PRIME protocols. It also integrates a complete PLC analog front end and a state-of-the-art cryptographic engine for secure communications. ST85MM works seamlessly with the STLD1 line driver companion IC to enable full PLC functionality in smart meter designs.

Moreover, STMicroelectronics has announced the PRIME 1.4 Hybrid PLC and RF certification for the base node. By combining the modem with the S2-LP ultra-low power radio transceiver, this system provides improved powerline and wireless communication.
