Infineon OptiMOS 7 Automotive MOSFET TOLL Package

Infineon Technologies AG has expanded its OptiMOS™ 7 automotive MOSFET portfolio with new devices that feature ultra-low on-resistance within the established TOLL package. These newly introduced automotive MOSFETs integrate Infineon's OptiMOS 7 semiconductor technology with a clip-based interconnection concept. This combination achieves improved electrical performance while maintaining the proven 10 × 12 mm² TOLL footprint, allowing automotive customers to benefit from lower power losses without needing larger package designs.

This development directly addresses the increasing demands for power density and efficiency in modern automotive 12 V and 48 V electrical systems. As vehicle electrification advances, automotive power systems require enhanced efficiency, compact implementation, and higher performance. Concurrently, engineers face challenges related to escalating power requirements, alongside the additional cost, board space, and design complexity often associated with larger packages. Infineon's new OptiMOS 7 TOLL devices mitigate these issues by delivering substantially lower conduction losses within the same established form factor.

A defining characteristic of this new product family is its significantly reduced drain-source on-resistance (RDS(on)). Infineon has introduced 40 V, 80 V, and 100 V MOSFET variants, boasting respective RDS(on) values of 0.24 mΩ, 0.57 mΩ, and 0.88 mΩ. These figures represent substantial improvements of 65 percent, 48 percent, and 37 percent, respectively, when compared to previous-generation OptiMOS TOLL products. This reduction in on-resistance directly translates to lower conduction losses, facilitating the development of higher-performing automotive power systems.

Beyond improvements in conduction losses, the synergy of OptiMOS 7 semiconductor technology and the clip-based interconnection also enhances capacitance and gate-charge characteristics. These improvements contribute to a reduction in switching losses, complementing the lower conduction losses. Furthermore, the devices feature a significantly tighter gate-threshold-voltage range, which promotes more balanced current sharing when multiple MOSFETs are connected in parallel. This characteristic helps to reduce the risk of damage to individual MOSFETs and supports the implementation of robust, high-current automotive power stages. The products are currently available.
