Human-Presence and Motion Detector for Enhanced Security, Home Automation, and IoT Devices

STMicroelectronics has introduced the STHS34PF80, a human-presence and motion detector aimed at enhancing security systems, home automation equipment, and IoT devices that typically rely on passive infrared (PIR) sensing. This sensor incorporates thermal transistors, enabling it to detect stationary objects without the need for a lens, simplifying its construction and enhancing its versatility across various applications.

The STHS34PF80 boasts energy efficiency with an operating current of 10µA, significantly lower than conventional PIR sensors. Its compact 3.2mm x 4.2mm x 1.455mm surface-mount package exhibits high resistance to unwanted effects of direct lighting and offers high immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI), ensuring reliable and accurate performance even in challenging environments.

Configurable with ST's Unico-GUI graphical interface, the STHS34PF80 can be used with compatible devices like X-NUCLEO-IKS01A3 or STEVAL-MKI109V3. Its thermal MOSFETs and silicon-on-insulator CMOS technology enable accurate temperature sensing and infrared detection, ensuring it senses human presence whether stationary or moving. Operating at a sub-threshold voltage, it consumes minimal power, making it ideal for battery-powered devices, while standard CMOS fabrication ensures cost-effectiveness and compact size.
