High-Performance 40V Voltage Regulators for Automotive and Industrial Uses
STMicroelectronics has introduced two new voltage regulators, LDH40 and LDQ40, designed for automotive and industrial use. These regulators are capable of starting up from just 3.3V and can handle inputs up to 40V. They have a low quiescent current, making them ideal for applications that prioritize energy efficiency. The LDH40 regulator can deliver up to 200mA and features an adjustable output voltage ranging from 1.2V to 22V. Meanwhile, the LDQ40 can provide up to 250mA and is available with either an adjustable output (ranging from 1.2V to 12V) or fixed output options (1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, and 5.0V). These regulators are highly efficient, with a quiescent current as low as 2µA at zero load and 300nA in logic-controlled shutdown mode, which helps conserve battery power in standby systems. They are designed to be stable with a small ceramic capacitor on the output.
The automotive-grade LDH40 and LDQ40 are AEC-Q100 qualified and are packaged in compact 2mm x 2mm DFN6L packages with wettable flanks, which aids in PCB design and automated optical inspection. Their wide input-voltage range makes them suitable for various automotive applications including infotainment systems, instrument clusters, and ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems). These voltage regulators come with various features like internal current limiting, thermal protection, soft-start, output active discharge, enable pin for shutdown control, and power-good pin for diagnostic monitoring. The LDQ40 devices also have short-circuit protection.
