Brief Note on SMBJ12CA
SMBJ12CA is a TVS diode that can nullify the sudden or momentary overvoltage effects on sensitive semiconductors and circuits. SMBJ12CA is connected in parallel with the device or circuit to be protected. Marking diagram for SMJB series is given below.
Anode and cathode can be differentiated by the colour band on cathode side. In SMJB12CA, SMJB is the series name, 12 is the operating voltage of diode, C stands for bi-directional and A is the voltage tolerance (5%). Graph between peak forward voltage and peak forward current is shown below. I-V characteristics for SMJB12CA is shown below. A bi-directional diode has the same characteristic curve in the positive and the negative direction, so it does not matter which way they are connected into the circuit. A unidirectional diode has a higher turn-on voltage in the positive direction compared to the negative direction.
Applications of Diode
- Diversion/clamping in low-energy circuits
- Data and Signal lines
- Microprocessor and MOS memory
