SM712: TVS Diode Array
The SM712 TVS Diode Array is specifically designed to protect multi-point data transmission in standard RS-485 applications (-7V to 12V) from damage due to electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical fast transients (EFT), and lightning induced surges. Breakdown and clamping voltage for SM712 is 13.3V and 26 V respectively.

Brief Note on SM712
The SM712 replaces four discrete components by integrating two 12V and two 7V TVS diodes in a single package. The four diode are connected in common anode format in two groups. This array design reduces voltage over-shoot associated with trace inductance. The low clamping voltage of SM712 minimizes the stress on the protected transceiver. Internal circuit diagram of SM712 is shown below.
SM712 TVS array diode comes in 3-pin package in which two pins are input/output pins and third pin is ground pin. In SM712, SM is the series name, 712 is the operating voltage range. Marking diagram for SM712 is given below.
