Vishay Intertechnology Releases New D2TO35S Top-Side Cooling Mount Power Resistor
VISHAY Intertechnology has introduced the D2TO35S, an automotive-grade top-side cooling mount thick-film power resistor. Housed in a compact TO-263 (D2PAK) surface-mount package, this new component is specifically designed for automotive applications, aiming to improve thermal performance and reduce board space requirements. It delivers a high power dissipation of 35 W at 25 °C, addressing the increasing challenge of thermal constraints in system design.
A key differentiator of the D2TO35S is its top-side cooling architecture, which facilitates direct heat transfer to a heatsink. This design enables significantly greater power dissipation, up to nine times more than standard PCB-mounted devices when paired with an appropriate heatsink. Its compact, surface-mount design offers flexibility for designers to either increase power dissipation within an existing footprint or achieve the same functionality in a smaller footprint, contributing to lower PCB temperatures, reduced thermal stress on adjacent components, and improved overall system reliability. Furthermore, the D2TO35S features a non-inductive design, which enhances signal integrity and power handling during fast transient conditions.
