Vishay Intertechnology XClampR® Bidirectional Flat Clamping TVS in DO-218AC Package Deliver Low Clamping Voltage
Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has introduced a new series of bidirectional XClampR® flat clamping transient voltage suppressors (TVS) in the surface-mount DO-218AC package. Manufactured by Vishay General Semiconductor, the XFD11KxxCA series comprises 15 devices, available in both commercial-grade and AEC-Q101-qualified versions, making them suitable for a wide range of applications, including demanding automotive environments.
These devices are notable as the industry's first to deliver peak pulse power dissipation comparable to 11 kW conventional TVS at 10/1000 μs. A key differentiator is their exceptionally low clamping ratio (VC/VBR) close to 1.0, which contributes to a high power density. This innovative design allows the XFD11KxxCA series to provide lower clamping voltage at the same stand-off voltage compared to conventional devices in DO-218-compatible packages.
Furthermore, the XClampR® TVS devices offer approximately 1.6x higher peak pulse current, reaching up to 207.1 A at 10/1000 μs. They also maintain low and stable clamping and breakdown voltages across a broad temperature range of -55 °C to +175 °C. Designed to safeguard sensitive electronics, these TVS devices effectively protect against voltage transients induced by inductive load switching and lightning, featuring an 8/20 μs surge capability up to 2140 A and a maximum leakage current of 10 μA at stand-off voltage.
