Microchip Introduces Smart Mutual Touch Technology for Large Automotive Displays with Enhanced Accuracy and Safety

Microchip Technology has introduced the ATMXT3072M1 and ATMXT2496M1 touchscreen controllers, designed to keep touchscreens responsive and reliable for high-resolution automotive displays.

When touch sensors are built directly into displays, they can pick up a lot of signal interference, leading to touch errors. Microchip’s Smart Mutual Touch technology tackles this by improving the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by up to +15 dB compared to older models. This means more accurate touch response, even in challenging conditions.

These controllers also support up to 112 reconfigurable touch channels, making them perfect for large displays—up to 34 inches—without compromising performance. Plus, they meet ASIL-A and ASIL-B safety standards and follow ISO 26262 certification requirements, ensuring reliability in automotive applications.

They also support Over-the-Air (OTA) firmware updates, secured using SHA-512 encryption to ensure protection against cybersecurity threats. Failure Modes Effects and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA) documentation and safety manuals are available to assist manufacturers in achieving system certification more efficiently. By incorporating dedicated hardware for generating haptic effects, the system reduces latency, improving user experience and responsiveness.
