Infineon Technologies has launched the PROFET Wire Guard series, offering advanced solutions for wire protection in modern power distribution systems. These devices feature precise and configurable I²t wire protection curves, enabling accurate emulation of wire stress characteristics. The six selectable protection curves make the series adaptable to a range of applications, particularly for optimizing wire harnesses when replacing mechanical relays and fuses.

The series includes five devices in TSDSO-14 and TSDSO-24 packages, targeting currents up to 27 A, with an extension to 36 A planned for Q4 2025. Key features include a capacitive load switching (CLS) mode for charging capacitive loads, an adjustable overcurrent detection threshold for rapid fault isolation, and an automatic idle mode that reduces current consumption to typically 50 µA during parking. Sequential diagnosis across five addresses on a single pin provides detailed application data, supporting functional safety tests and wire harness optimization. Certified as ISO 26262:2018 Safety Elements out of Context, the PROFET Wire Guard series ensures reliability and compliance for safety-critical applications up to ASIL D.
