MLX92442 Switch: Compact and Fully Integrated Inductive Switch Optimized for Automotive Applications
Melexis has introduced the MLX92442 Induxis® switch, a new technology that operates without magnets and is resistant to stray magnetic fields. This all-in-one solution can directly detect conductive targets, allowing for compact designs with fewer parts in automotive applications like high voltage interlocks, charging flaps, seatbelts, hood/trunk sensors, gear tooth sensing, and brake-by-wire systems. Melexis' induction solution does away with the need for magnets or physical buttons. Instead, it detects conductive targets such as seat belt buckles or door latches directly. Key features of the MLX92442 include built-in coils within the chip, reducing the need for external parts like PCBs and coils. This integration results in more efficient packaging and easier system integration. The switch comes in through-hole VK packaging or surface-mount SOIC packaging. The MLX92442 is designed for reliability and safety with its contactless operation and integrated features. By getting rid of moving parts and external magnets, it lowers the risk of damage or displacement. It also simplifies design and assembly, cutting down on the number of components needed and reducing development time compared to typical sensors.
In terms of functionality, the MLX92442 has reverse supply voltage protection, under-voltage protection, thermal protection, and a built-in self-diagnostic function with a dedicated safe mode. It supports both factory and end-of-line programming and can be configured by defining the application's shape and motion. The switch works within a wide voltage range of 3.5 V to 18 V and a temperature range of -40°C to 150°C, making it suitable for various automotive conditions. It meets ISO26262 ASIL A standards, ensuring reliability for safety-critical applications. This technology provides a dependable alternative to Hall effect and mechanical solutions, requiring minimal design effort and ensuring smooth integration and operation.
