Nordic Semiconductor Introduces Groundbreaking nPM1300 Power Management IC and Evaluation Kit for Enhanced System Control
Nordic Semiconductor has announced the launch of its latest product, the nPM1300™ Power Management IC (PMIC). Designed for battery-operated applications, the nPM1300 combines two ultra-efficient buck converters, two load switches/Low Drop out voltage converters (LDOs), and integrated battery charging in a single compact chip. This integration significantly reduces the Bill-of-Materials (BoM) by eliminating the need for multiple discrete components. Accompanying the PMIC is the nPM1300 Evaluation Kit (EK) and the nPM PowerUP PC app, providing developers with a seamless and code-free way to evaluate, configure, and implement the nPM1300 PMIC.
The nPM1300 PMIC stands out with its unique system management features, including accurate fuel gauging for low-power wireless applications. Utilizing an algorithm-based fuel gauge functionality, the nPM1300 offers higher accuracy than voltage-based fuel gauges while maintaining low power consumption. This balance between accuracy and efficiency is unmatched by any competing PMIC product. Geared towards developers using Nordic's nRF52® and nRF53® Series, as well as the recently launched nRF54H20™ advanced wireless multiprotocol Systems-on-Chip (SoCs), the nPM1300 PMIC perfectly complements their power management requirements.
Optimized for efficiency and size, the nPM1300 PMIC features an I2C-compatible Two Wire Interface (TWI) for easy configuration of advanced system management functions. These include integrated hard reset functionality, accurate battery fuel gauging, system-level watchdog, power loss warning, and recovery from failed boot. With the nPM1300, these functions are available as on-chip features, eliminating the need for additional discrete components. The PMIC operates from a wide range of power supplies and supports battery charging for applications based on the nRF9160™ SiP for cellular IoT. Nordic's nPM1300 Evaluation Kit simplifies the evaluation and configuration process by allowing developers to seamlessly interface with the PMIC using the nPM PowerUP app, eliminating the need for coding.
The nPM1300 Evaluation Kit is now available through Nordic's distribution partners, while the nPM1300 PMIC in QFN and CSP packages is set to enter mass production in October 2023. Developers can request samples of the PMIC directly from Nordic's sales team. With its all-in-one integration, advanced system management capabilities, and user-friendly Evaluation Kit, the nPM1300 PMIC offers a streamlined solution for power management in low-power applications, enabling developers to accelerate their product development process.
