IPS2550- Magnet-Free Inductive Position Sensor for High-Speed Automotive Motor Commutation
Renesas Electronics Corporation has introduced the magnet-free IPS2550 inductive position sensor that features improved performance and easy customization along with stray field immunity and reduced weight and form factor. The IPS2550 can be used as an absolute position sensor for high-speed motor commutation in passenger cars, heavy-duty commercial and off-road vehicles as well as motorbikes.
When the new sensor is combined with Renesas microcontrollers(MCUs), gate drivers, and motor drivers it can act as a complete motor commutation solution for traction motors, electronic power steering, starter generators, and other motor applications. The inductive position sensing technology of the device is designed around the motor accommodating both off-axis and on-axis positioning and allows it to deliver speeds up to 600krpm, this allows the customers to match the number of sectors to pole pairs of the motor and cost-effectively boost the accuracy.
As a single IC, the ISO26262 based sensor can support the most challenging functional safety-critical applications that are capable of supporting up to ASIL-C(D) system-level requirements. The total stray field immunity of the IPS2550 sensor enables easier motor integration. The IPS2550 is available now with prices starting at $4.76 USD per unit in 1,000-unit quantities.
