STMicroelectronics Unveils STM32WL3 Wireless MCU Extended Battery Life for Smart Devices, Power Efficiency and Long-Range Connectivity
STMicroelectronics has introduced the STM32WL3 wireless microcontroller unit (MCU), blending wireless-device design expertise with the efficient STM32 architecture. Boasting power-saving features, these MCUs extend battery life beyond 15 years, making them ideal for remote applications like metering and monitoring in smart buildings and cities. The advanced multi-protocol radio supports long-range communication in global license-free frequency bands, and a unique ultra-low-power radio facilitates energy-efficient power-down modes while waiting for a wake-up signal. Low-power designs, achieving up to 15 years of operation from a small battery.
The long-range radio on the STM32WL3 MCUs operates in the internationally designated license-free frequency bands, 413MHz – 479MHz and 826MHz – 958MHz, with the support for 169MHz coming in 2024. The radio is multi-protocol and multi-modulation capable, supporting 4-(G)FSK up to 600kbit/s, 2-(G)FSK, (G)MSK, DBPSK, DSSS, OOK, ASK modulation schemes to maximize versatility and ease deployment. The complete STM32WL3 lineup covers devices with Flash density ranging from 64KB to 256KB, 16KB or 32KB RAM, and is available in 32-pin or 48-pin VFQFPN packages. There is also an extended temperature range option, from -40°C to 105°C. STMicroelectronics guarantees a 10-year longevity for industrial products in this range.
