Qorvo Introduces New RF Multi-Chip Modules for Advanced Radar Applications
Qorvo has introduced three new RF multi-chip modules (MCMs) designed for advanced radar applications. These modules are compact, high-performing, and energy-efficient, suitable for phased array and multifunction radar systems. The first module, the QPF5001, is a 12W X-band front-end module (FEM) that integrates a power amplifier, a low noise amplifier (LNA), and a limiter into one unit. This integration reduces the board area by about 50% compared to discrete component solutions.
The second module, the QPM2101, is an S-band receive variable gain amplifier (VGA) MCM. It combines an LNA, a 6-bit digital step attenuator, an Rx buffer, and a T/R switch, resulting in a 40% reduction in board area. The third module, the QPB1029, is an L-band filter bank MCM. It includes two switches on both sides of eight filters and a bypass, all in a 10 x 10 mm package. This makes it the smallest L-band radar eight-channel switched filter bank in the industry, aiding in meeting size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) goals.
Features:
- Integrates power amplifier, low noise amplifier (LNA), and limiter
- Reduces board area by approximately 50%
- Combines LNA, 6-bit digital step attenuator, Rx buffer, and T/R switch
- Achieves 40% reduction in board area
- Integrates two switches on both sides of eight filters and a bypass
- Packaged in a 10 x 10 mm size, the smallest in its category
Applications:
- QPF5001: Phased array radar systems
- QPM2101: Multifunction radar systems
- QPB1029: L-band radar systems
