New NanoT Tactile Switches with Compact Design and Customizable Force Options for Wearables and IoT Applications

Littelfuse has expanded its NanoT tactile switch product line, featuring miniature, surface-mounted, waterproof tactile switches with new operational force options and top-and side-actuated models. These switches are designed for applications in smart wearables, wireless headsets, portable medical devices, and IoT systems. 

The top-actuated model measures 2.1 x 1.65 x 0.55 mm, offering 20% space savings, while the side-actuated model is 2.2 x 1.70 x 1.65 mm, saving 35% space. The compact size provides design flexibility for engineers, enabling reduced PCB sizes or the integration of additional functionality. Operational force options include 100 gf for frequent use with reduced fatigue, 160 gf for balanced tactile feedback, and 240 gf for firm activation. The switches are IP67-rated for dust and water resistance, with an operating temperature range of -40°C to 85°C, ensuring reliability in various environments.

Designed for durability, the switches have life cycles of 200,000 to 300,000 actuations. Integration options include PIP (Pin-in-Paste) or SMT (Surface Mount Technology) edge mounting, which enhance resistance to shock and shear, reducing maintenance needs and extending equipment life. The NanoT series is packaged in tape-and-reel format, with 8,000 pieces per reel for the top-actuated version and 7,500 pieces for the side-actuated version. These switches are particularly suited for confined spaces where high reliability and space efficiency are critical.
