New Low-Power Tri-Radio IoT Modules Type 2FR/2FP and Type 2KL/2LL Enable Seamless Integration for Industrial Automation and Smart Devices

Murata Manufacturing has launched the Type 2FR/2FP and Type 2KL/2LL, ultra-compact tri-radio IoT communication modules designed to enhance wireless connectivity in smart homes, buildings, and industrial IoT applications. These modules support tri-radio communication with dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy, and Thread, along with Matter provisioning, enabling seamless integration into next-generation IoT ecosystems.

The Type 2FR/2FP modules feature a 260 MHz Arm Cortex-M33 MCU combined with Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, and 802.15.4 OpenThread communication. With dimensions of just 12.0mm x 11.0mm x 1.5mm, they can operate as co-processors or standalone devices. These modules are ideal for applications such as smart energy, security, HVAC systems, industrial automation, and healthcare devices. The Type 2KL/2LL modules, powered by the advanced NXP IW610 chipset, offer cost-effective Wi-Fi 6 capabilities for mid to high-performance processors running Linux or a real-time operating system (RTOS). These modules are suited for imaging devices, smart accessories, and building automation.

Both module families provide advanced security features compliant with SESIP3 and PSA3 standards, eliminating the need for external security ICs. They also support external antennas, include rich peripheral interfaces, and operate with low power to extend battery life, thereby reducing the Bill of Materials (BoM) in IoT designs. Certified for Matter compatibility, these modules meet the requirements of the EU Cyber Resilience Act. Murata’s patented SR molding technology ensures a compact and reliable design.
