Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corporation has introduced the Mx11 family of helium-sealed, high-capacity hard disk drives (HDDs) designed to meet the growing demand for efficient, large-scale data storage. The family includes the MG11 Series, which delivers up to 24TB using conventional magnetic recording (CMR), and the MA11 Series, which offers up to 28TB with shingled magnetic recording (SMR). These drives are engineered for 24/7 performance and reliability, making them ideal for use in data centers, cloud storage, video surveillance, backup systems, and large-scale enterprise environments. Both series feature a 10-disk, 3.5-inch, 7,200rpm design with helium-sealed technology, leveraging Toshiba’s cutting-edge flux control microwave-assisted magnetic recording (FC-MAMR™) technology.
The MG11 Series is particularly suited for customers looking to scale their storage infrastructure. With a 1GiB buffer, a workload rating of 550TB per year, and a maximum sustained transfer speed of 295MiB/s, it supports 6Gbps SATA and 12Gbps SAS interfaces, ensuring smooth integration into any data center. Available in capacities ranging from 14TB to 24TB, this series is equipped with enhanced security features like sanitize instant erase (SIE) and self-encrypting drive (SED) options, ideal for secure data management.
The MA11 Series, utilizing host-managed SMR technology, achieves higher storage densities by overlapping physical tracks on the disk. With capacities of up to 28TB, it is perfect for data centers with software that optimizes SMR technology, providing significant cost savings and enhanced data security with its SED options. Additionally, these drives are designed for applications such as online archiving, high-density storage environments, and content delivery networks (CDNs).
