Murata Launches World’s Smallest RF / Microwave Coaxial Connectors with a Switch
Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. has commenced mass production of its SWL series, including models MM8330-2600RJ5 and MM8330-2600RK20. These are distinguished as the world’s smallest RF/microwave coaxial connectors with a switch, designed to address the increasing demand for miniaturisation in modern electronic devices. Measuring a mere 1.0 mm × 1.0 mm × 0.55 mm, the SWL series significantly reduces the PCB mounting area required for RF test connectors.
As wireless devices integrate more functionalities, the resulting increase in component density places considerable pressure on limited printed circuit board (PCB) space. RF test connectors, in particular, demand not only mounting space for the component itself but also sufficient clearance for probe access during crucial circuit measurements. This challenge is directly tackled by the SWL series' compact design.
Murata has engineered the SWL series with a proprietary structure that leverages its advanced RF and mechanical design technologies. This innovative approach enables extreme miniaturization without compromising critical performance aspects such as low RF transmission loss and mechanical robustness. The new connectors reduce the PCB mounting area by approximately 40% compared to Murata’s previous SWJ series, and when paired with dedicated probes, the total PCB footprint, including the keep-out area, is reduced by approximately 60%.
