MLX80302 – Three Phase BLDC Motor Controller IC with a Peak Driving Capability of 2.6 A for Automotive and Motorcycle Pump Applications
The MLX80302 from Melexis is a lately introduced smart 3-phase motor controller with integrated power FETs. Optimized for driving brushless DC motors with RMS current up to 1.8 A and start-up current up to 2.6 A, the device is best suited for automotive and motorcycle pump applications up to 20 W on the 13 V battery voltage. Besides, the MLX80302 is apt for a wide range of home appliances and industrial pump applications up to 40 W on a 24 V regulated supply.
The device offers extensive integrated protection including a locked rotor, over-temperature, overvoltage, short circuit, and current limiting. The motor control operation is validated for robust operation with a remote motor location in very noisy environments, tests including BCI, and ignition coil noise injection. The fast start-up (down to 50 ms) of the device is robust under load- and no-load conditions. The operating voltage ranges from 6.0 V up to 28 V. To speed up the development, the device comes with the application board (APP80302) and evaluation board (EVB80302).
The MLX80302 is available in an 8-pin SOIC package with an exposed pad. The device has been designed and qualified to support permanent operation at a junction temperature TJ in the range of -40 °C to 150 °C. It requires only reverse polarity protection and a single decoupling capacitor which makes it ideal for integration into a pump connector.
The device is programmable via an I2C interface and all options are configurable in the on-board EEPROM. Various PWM input options can be selected, and the motor start-up procedure can be configured to reach the maximum target speed for fuel pumps under pressure in less than 60 ms.
