MAX25205 – Low Cost Data-Acquisition Sensor Provides Gesture and Proximity Sensing for Automotive Applications

MAX25205 Gesture Sensor
MAX25205 Gesture Sensor

Maxim Integrated has introduced the MAX25205 Gesture Sensor for Automotive Applications that will enable designers of automotive systems to add dynamic hand-gesture controls with greater ease at the lowest cost (10x lower than ToF camera-based systems) and smallest size (up to 75 percent smaller than ToF camera-based solutions). With integrated optics and a 6x10 infrared (IR) sensor array, this gesture and proximity-sensing sensor detects swipe and hand-rotation gestures without the complexity of time-of-flight (ToF) cameras.

Besides enabling swipe and rotation gestures sensing at a lower cost, the sensor allows developers to avoid complex software development and maintenance programs. 60 photodiode array, LED driver and internal LDO are packed smartly in this sensor. The sensor delivers 9 gestures, including swipe, rotations, air link, and 3x2 proximity zones with low lag time in a single chip, unlike the competitive solution that requires 3 chips and a complicated microprocessor. Moreover, cost reduction makes gesture-sensing feasible for automotive, consumer, and industrial applications like smart home hubs, thermostats, and others.

The MAX25205 sensor is available at Maxim Integrated’s website where you can place a request for the pricing. The MAX25205EVKIT# evaluation kit is also available.
