High-Power 20A Converters with Flexible Voltage and Compact Design

TDK Corporation has introduced new 20A models to the TDK-Lambda i7A series of non-isolated buck DC-DC converters. These converters follow the 1/16th brick pinout standard and are designed to offer a trimmable output ranging from 3.3V to 32V, with a maximum rating of 500W. They operate with an input range of 28V to 60V. Additionally, the converters offer an adjustable over-current limit to help manage excessive overcurrent conditions. The 20A models are compact and can provide high-power outputs efficiently, making them suitable for applications in areas such as mobile robotics, drones, medical devices, industrial equipment, test and measurement tools, communications, computing, and portable battery-powered devices. With an efficiency of up to 96%, these converters can operate in temperatures ranging from -40°C to +125°C, even in low airflow environments. The design also ensures low output ripple and a good response to dynamic loads, requiring fewer external components compared to other solutions.

The 20A i7A models are available in three configurations: an open-frame model with a low profile of 11.5mm and weighing 25g, a baseplate version for conduction cooling that is 12.7mm high, and a model with an integral heatsink for convection or forced air cooling that is 24.9mm high. Standard features include output voltage adjustment, positive remote sense, negative logic remote on-off, and protections against input under-voltage, over-current, and over-temperature. These models are certified to the IEC/UL/CSA/EN 62368-1 safety standards and carry CE and UKCA markings for compliance with the Low Voltage and RoHS Directives.
